Forest Bathing

Shinrin Yoku or Forest Bathing is the Japanese art of imersing yourself in the forest and through allowing nature to wash over you.

It is a mindful practice, enabling you to find the quiet, still place within and connecting to the present moment.

It is about connection and relationship: learning the art of stillness.

What to expect

During a Forest Bathing experience we tend to walk slowly with purpose. We never walk far so it is suitable for people of all abilities. We will spend time grounding in the space before listening to forest invitations through our senses. Next we will find a sit spot where we learn stillness while the forest moves around us. To end the session we will share tea, sometimes foraged, or cacao before slowly walking back into our everyday life.

Why Forest Bathe?

Forest bathing is a meditative practice suitable for anyone who enjoys being out in nature. It is calming and can help you to relax and thus quiet your mind.

There are a number of scientifically proven health benefits associated with forest bathing and nature therapy including reduction in stress, anxiety and depression and recovery from burnout. It can also benefit those with hypertension, heart disease, cancer and pain as well as improve glucose levels in diabetic people.

What to bring

The most important thing to consider is what to wear, We will be walking on uneven ground so sturdy footwear is a good idea. And of course, dress for the weather - rain, wind, snow and sun all enhance the experinece so be prepared!

You may want to bring a snack and some water, a waterproof cover or mat to sit on or small stool which you are able to carry

Shamanic drum
seed rattle
handmade drum
drum circle

Sound meditation, drums and forest bathing

I always carry my drum with me while forest bathing and sometimes I bring my gong and other instruments to give you an enhanced sound meditation experience as part of our Shinrin Yoku practice

I also lead drum circles and bring these out to the forest to mark changing of seasons around solstice and equinox times.
