Plough Roundabout Subway Project, Hemel Hempstead

Back in 2024 I worked as lead artist and project manager on an exciting community project involving Hertfordshire County Council, Dacorum Borough Council, Dacorum Creatives, Services for Young People, and local businesses. Working alongside local artists and volunteers we created a vibrant, colourful subway with the purpose of creating a light, safe space for local residents and people visiting the town centre to enjoy!

Murals can transform spaces and give them a fresh identity

For this design I was asked to create a mural in keeping with the schools ethos of nature, nurture & forest school for the schools SEND playground. I incorporated the life cycle of a butterfly & a frog into the main design, as well as specific flowers found on the school grounds. I also painted insects around the playground for the children to count & find.

This was so much fun to create & it was very rewarding interacting with the children & staff each day and seeing their joy as the mural grew

Painted Benches bringing a sense of joy and fun to urban spaces

In Spring 2025 I was busy brightening up the benches in Hemel Hempstead town centre. They all now have new designs, featuring bright botanicals, bringing nature into the town centre and giving passers by a reason to smile!

Public art and street art is a great way to support people's mental health and wellbeing as well as encouraging engagement and connection with our environment.

If you visit Sunnyside Food Gardens in Hemel Hempstead you may spot a few similar benches. They were so inspired when they saw the new designs that they asked me to go and work with their trainees to create some painted benches for their outdoor café area. There is nothing more rewarding than spreading colour and sunshine by adding a splash of colour to a public space!

This mural is no longer in situ but I keep it here in memory of Nicole Smallman and Bibaa Henry who left this life too soon in 2020. Their faces feature in the design and were recognised by passers by while we painted.
